OUR STORY
The Ten South Group represents a series of real estate development enterprises controlled by Scott Canel for the benefit of his family. We are based in Chicago but develop and hold real estate investments across the United States. We specialize in the development, construction, ownership, and management of multifamily housing, though we also have experience developing single-family homes, commercial complexes, and specialized housing, such as housing for the elderly and nursing homes. Our multifamily housing portfolio includes luxury, mixed-income, workforce, and affordable housing developments – all of which we construct and manage ourselves.
At Ten South, we strive to model a wholistic understanding of sustainable development, one that takes cognizance not only of our environmental footprint, but also of the broader social impact of our work. In addition to building environmentally sustainable buildings, we also seek to create socially sustainable communities.
In regard to environmental sustainability, we achieve federally recognized “Green” certification on all new development projects. Whenever feasible, we aim to surpass these certification standards by pioneering new and state-of-the-art green technologies. In regard to social sustainability, we marry our dual expertise in luxury multifamily development and affordable housing to deliver class A residential facilities to individuals of all income levels. We particularly enjoy creating mixed income communities where high-income, moderate-income, and lower-income individuals live side by side with one another

Development
Our development team has developed luxury single-family and multifamily housing, mixed-income housing, workforce housing, affordable housing, elderly housing, nursing homes, and boutique commercial complexes in more than a dozen states.

Construction
Our construction division serves as the general contractor for all Ten South development and redevelopment projects. Unlike nearly all other general contractors, it also operates its own captive subcontractor crews.

Management
Our property management division oversees all Ten South apartment and retail operations. We have over 25 years of experience operating luxury housing, mixed-income housing, workforce housing, and affordable housing, as well as boutique office and retail buildings.

Preservation
As part of our commitment to social sustainability, we acquire and redevelop affordable housing throughout the United States in order to improve product quality while preserving preexisting affordability restrictions.
